Dorfold Hall

History

The hall is traditionally said to have been built around 1616 for Ralph Wilbraham, a member of a long-established Cheshire landowning family. Ownership later passed to the Tollemache family and then to the Roundells, its present owners. The building has survived largely intact since the early 17th century, which is part of why Pevsner singled it out among Cheshire's Jacobean houses.

Architecture

The hall is built in the Jacobean style, with a symmetrical brick and stone frontage typical of grand houses of the period. Its great hall and staircase retain much of their original early 17th-century plasterwork and joinery.

Gardens & grounds

The grounds are locally known for spring displays of snowdrops and bluebells, drawing visitors beyond those interested in the house itself.
