The estate has remained in continuous family ownership for more than five centuries, passing through successive generations to the present Lord Langford. The house was substantially remodelled in 1874 by William Eden Nesfield, who reimagined the building's external appearance and layout. Earlier work on the property is associated with Inigo Jones, and later additions carry the influence of Clough Williams-Ellis.

The current appearance of the hall owes most to William Eden Nesfield's 1874 remodelling. Work associated with Inigo Jones and Clough Williams-Ellis is also present, giving the building a layered architectural character across several centuries.
