About this place

Balvaird Castle dates from the late fifteenth century and stands in the Ochil Hills of Perth and Kinross, Scotland.

The tower house was built by Andrew Murray, who acquired the land through his marriage to Margaret Barclay around 1495, with the land passing to Murray after her father's death in 1499.

It is one of the more complete examples of a Scottish tower house from that period, with much of its original fabric surviving.

Historic Environment Scotland manages the site and admission is free.
